Aerospace pioneer forms research partnership with Swansea University

Aviation tech solutions company STG Aerospace has teamed up with Swansea University to develop safer products for the aerospace industry.

Funded by the Welsh Government, the project will support the development of aviation technologies by linking academics with local businesses.

Dr Sean O’Kell, director of innovation at STG Aerospace, said the company is going through a research drive in South Wales and is focused on improving aircraft safety.

“This takes our current number of post-graduate university programmes to four and demonstrates yet again just how important research is to our business,” he explained in a statement.

“For a company of our size, we invest a significant amount of time and energy not only in the development of our existing products but also in research for what will be the next generation of aircraft cabin lighting systems.”

In recent times, STG Aerospace has formed similar partnerships with  Cardiff University and Delft University of Technology in Holland.

Dr Chris Phillips, from Swansea University, added: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with STG Aerospace on this PhD project.

“Strengthening the ties between academia and the SME sector is vitally important to the development of new technologies that can be applied in the marketplace.”
