Firms create app for a new generation of athletes

MSC Nutrition, a Cardiff-based sports brand, has formed a partnership with global sport-tech company Volt Athletics to support a new generation of athletes.

The Welsh firm has begun providing a training platform within Volt’s intelligent training app. It gives users access to sport-specific training plans customised to their needs so they can constantly improve and reach new goals in their careers.

While most fitness apps focus on weight loss and activity tracking, Volt uses proprietary technology to analyse simple inputs and characteristics from athletes to build a 52-week training plan. The latter is designed by leading sport scientists and coaches.

There are three training programs available: football, cricket and rugby. This is MSC’s first product that combines science and technology with standard nutritional supplements, something the firm hopes will revolutionise the industry.

Rhys Dyer, business development director of MSC Nutrition, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Volt, as it means we are able to offer this next-level training platform to athletes.

“Volt’s training was developed by experts in their fields, and as we are dedicated to supporting the athletes we work with, this partnership strengthens that support and reflects our belief of providing a high level of support to everyone who interacts with our brand.”

“We work with elite athletes and teams such as Carl Frampton, Sam Warburton and Scottish Rugby. “This partnership is another demonstration of our dedication to supporting the progression of all athletes, regardless of their current level.

“MSC Nutrition is not simply about providing high performance Informed Sport-accredited supplementation. We pride ourselves on supporting our teams, athletes and customers with their overall performance.”

MSC’s training platform, which now forms a major part of the Volt app, prescribes weekly workouts to users. They’re designed to help them reach peak performance at the right time, while training algorithms adapt and grow alongside.

Dan Giuliani, CEO of Volt, said: “This partnership represents an important step towards realizing Volt’s mission of enabling all athletes worldwide to access elite-level training. MSC is a trusted sport performance brand in the UK, and, in collaboration, we will have a substantial impact on the health, safety, and performance of UK-based athletes.”
