First PS4 game developed in Wales launches

The first ever PS4 game to be developed in Wales has gone live today.

Infinity Runner, a sci-fi game running game, has officially been published for PS4 users by Welsh games developer Wales Interactive.

The game developer and publisher, based in Pencoed, had secured a deal with tech giant Sony to create the game for the PlayStation Network – which is used by millions around the world.

It becomes the first Welsh company to do so – a milestone that will no doubt inspire other Welsh developers to come up with innovative games for the mass market.

The game sets users on an adventure to escape from a doomed starship by running and ducking obstacles on the way.

Ben Tester, who works in marketing at Wales Interactive, said: “This is the very first PS4 and Xbox One game to be made entirely in Wales, which is a big achievement for us and something we are very proud to shout about.

“With this in mind, South Wales has become an emerging hub in the video games industry, and it’s always been our goal to put Wales on the video games map.

“Take the Wales Games Development Show, for example. Every year it’s just getting bigger and bigger, and it’s now attracting visits from some big names in the industry.

“We’ll be exhibiting there again this year with both Infinity Runner and our upcoming title, Soul Axiom.”

Users are able to purchase the game on the PlayStation Network for £4.99.
