Google developer event to return to Cardiff

Organisers of the Google Developer Group Cardiff have announced that the next event is to take place on February 16th at the city’s central library.

The occasion is a chance for tech professionals, product developers, entrepreneurs and creatives to come together and discuss the latest trends in the tech world.

This will be the first GDG Cardiff event to take place in 2017, and it’ll be sponsored by Nagra Media UK and Acorn Recruitment. It’ll cover a range of development topics.

Rupert Whitehead, developer relations programme lead at Google UK, has been confirmed as a speaker. In his role, he aims to help developers make the most of Google’s technologies.

He’ll talk about a broad range of areas, including web, Android, cloud, apps script, YouTube and maps. Whitehead is also responsible for leading the company’s agencies programme in Europe.

Alex Jeffers, the lead organiser of the event, told Tech Dragons that the event is an informative, but friendly environment for Cardiff’s development community to get together for an evening.

“This month at the Google Developer Group Cardiff, Rupert Whitehead, the Developer Relations Regional Lead for the UK and Ireland. The general format of the event is 40 or so minutes of talks, with a chance to chat, eat pizza and drink beer,” he said.

“This month we’ve only got Rupert coming along as we thought there would be a lot of questions after his talk. When we’re finished, we normally head over to the pub for a couple of drinks.

“This year we’re hoping to put on an event every other month. We’re really keen to get speakers from all over the UK to come and speak to really put Cardiff on the map when it comes to the tech industry.”
