Meet the judges of the 2018 Wales Technology Awards

Welsh technology networking organisation ESTnet has revealed the judging panel for the 2018 Wales Technology Awards, following a record year for entries.

Supported by the likes of GoCompare, Barclays Eagle Labs, Be The Spark, Cardiff Metropolitan University, IQE plc, Mobilise Cloud and Newport Wafer Fab, the awards will champion the outstanding achievements of Welsh innovators and tech firms.

The winners are to be announced on May 3rd at a gala-style event in Cardiff’s City Hall. The 2018 expert judging panel will be led by Ashley Cooper, who is one of Wales’s most prolific entrepreneurs and investors.

Other judges include Alwen Williams, BT Director of Wales; Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, senior pro-vice-chancellor at Swansea University; Ian drew, former CMO of ARM Holdings; David Buttress, former CEO of Just Eat; Dr Richard Theo, CEO of fintech firm Wealthify; and Gareth Bullock, chairman of the Development Bank of Wales.

Avril Lewis, Managing Director of the ESTnet, said the event is about shining a light on the success achieved by Wales’s 3,000-strong Welsh technology firms.

“We are honoured to be joined by such an esteemed panel of experts to celebrate the talent and achievements of the electronic, software and technology sectors in Wales,” she said.

“These Awards are Wales’ opportunity to show the world that we have individuals and companies capable of competing and thriving on a global scale.

Lewis said the judges bring a wide range of experience in the technology sector to the judging panel. She added: “The diverse range of expertise our judges bring is a direct reflection of the near limitless array of sectors that are underpinned by the advancements and innovations designed, developed and integrated by the leading Welsh companies these Awards are set to champion.”
