Newport solar tech accessory maker signs distribution agreement with major electronics wholesaler

Newport-based solar tech accessory maker GCell has signed an exclusive keyboard and accessory distribution agreement with major wholesale electronics distributor Ingram Micro.
This commences the introduction of the GCell Solar Power Keyboard Folio, a solar-powered Bluetooth keyboard compatible with Apple’s iPad Air and iPad Air 2.
Instead of relying on batteries or an electrical socket, like many other Bluetooth keyboards out there, the GCell Solar Power Folio draws power from ambient light.
This, according to the company, removes dependence on a mains-powered charger and offers commuters complete flexibility when it comes to using the keyboard on the go.
Richard Costello, CEO at the GCell brand, said: “The distribution agreement with Ingram Micro is an important milestone for the company. We have successfully transitioned from a component supplier to a branded product manufacturer and are delighted to have partnered with the world’s most recognisable distributor of such devices.”
He added: “The GCell Solar Power Keyboard Folio has been designed with the needs of the contemporary commuter in mind. Today, books have been replaced with iPads, which allow city slickers to work, play and surf in the palm of their hands.
“Yet for many users, the iPad experience would be greatly enhanced by the presence of a keyboard. GCell does just this, essentially revolutionising the concept of solar technology and placing it straight into the hands of the iPad generation.”
The Solar Keyboard Folio will be quickly followed by a range of GCell branded tablet accessories, a solar backpack and a suite of wireless sensors in Q4 2015 and Q1 2016.
