North Wales 3D tech firm wins prestigious industry award
by Nicholas Fearn , January 25
A North Wales-based tech firm that specialises in providing 3D scanning services has been awarded with a prestigious industry award.
OR3D is the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Geomagic Software award from 3DSystems.com, a company that invents 3D technologies.
The award is in recognition of OR3D having the largest amount of Geomagic software sales in the UK during 2015.
James Earl, who’s the managing director of the firm, picked up the award at the 3D Systems Global Partner Summit in Las Vegas on January 9th.
Over 500 people were in attendance, and there was an award ceremony at the end of the event where the winners were announced.
Earl told us: “It was a complete surprise and was not expecting an award. These awards come from the 3D Systems management team who decide amongst themselves which partners receive awards based on the company’s performance throughout the year.
“The award vindicates the hard work that we have put into prompting and selling specialist 3D CAD software for laser scanning solutions. It’s great that we have been recognised for this work.”
James set up the company four years ago after a long career in software development and becoming fascinated with the potential of 3D laser scanners.
He said: “Realising the huge benefits of this high tech equipment and the importance of processing the data in the right software, I was keen to offer 3D scanning services for reverse engineering and inspection purposes.
Since launching, the firm has worked with a wide range of sectors and clients, and it’s become the largest supplier of Geomagic products in the UK.
James added:”Our client list is a diverse one that covers a range of sectors from manufacturing, civil engineering, medical, aerospace, defence, marine and heritage.
“Our sector was previously the preserve of automotive and aerospace companies that utilised this technology . Offering our services has allowed SME’s to take advantage of the 3D scanning technology’s without the large capital investment in equipment.
“As the largest supplier of Geomagic products in the UK we are proud of our capabilities to take on any size service project or provide consultancy, sales, training and support to companies wanting to buy. As we move forward, we are looking to offer our own bespoke solutions around 3D technologies.”
