Techniquest joins global science initiative
Science discovery centre Techniquest has been chosen to take part in a global network aimed at boosting collaboration in STEM research.
Managed by the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History in America, the OF/BY/FOR ALL Change Network network will work to establish and nurture robust science communities globally.
Techniquest, an educational charity based in Cardiff Bay, will participate in the project with 20 other civic and cultural organisations over the next six months.
Announced last month, the initiative will see the organisations work together to strengthen community engagement and relationships all around the world.
The news comes as Techniquest continues to scale. In July, the charity secured £5.7 million of funding to bring its Science Capital project to life.
It describes the Science Capital as a “radical transformation and extension” of the existing building, with the vision to create a scientifically literate society across Wales and inspire the next generation of STEM talent.
Clare James, fundraising manager at Techniquest, said: “As we march forward on our mission to make science accessible for everyone, it is incredibly important to us to work with our local communities to bring this vision to life.
“We’re delighted to be part of this ground-breaking programme. It’s incredibly exciting to have this opportunity to work alongside such a diverse range of organisations that are on a similar mission to Techniquest. To be selected by the network as one of only two UK organisations is all the more pleasing.”
A big part of the OF/BY/FOR ALL Network is organisations sharing resources and connecting individuals, which Clare believes will allow Techniquest to reach its full potential.
She added: “Led by the inspiring Nina Simon from Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, we’re looking forward to learning from other organisations and how their teams work to tackle different problems.
“Looking ahead, we’re working towards becoming a sustainable, vital part of the community, and ensuring that Techniquest is a welcoming, relevant space where our communities feel comfortable, confident and connected.”
