Cardiff-based interactive studio unveils new children’s TV show apps

Thud Media, an interactive design and development studio based in Cardiff, has unveiled two new children’s TV show apps.
The first is Toot’s Race, a race-themed boat game based on pre-school animated series Toot the Tiny Tugboat. The show airs on Channel 5’s Milkshake, Cartoonito, Netflix and in Welsh on S4C.
Thud’s second app is Boj Smoothies, although it’s yet to launch. It’s an educational mobile game for kids aged three and above, featuring characters from CBeebies and S4C series Boj.
Both apps have been developed at Thud’s interactive studio in Gloworks, the Welsh Government’s creative industries centre in Cardiff Bay. There, the firm employs 5 staff and specialises in producing interactive content for iOS, Android and the web.
All of Thud’s apps and games are bilingual so users can enjoy them in English or Welsh. The studio has also developed interactive content for a variety of Welsh-language S4C programmes.
Ben Cawthorne, director of animation and interactive at Thud Media, said: “Wales’ gaming industry is booming at the moment and we’re pleased to be playing a part in that.
“Toot’s Race and Boj Smoothies have been major projects for us this year and we have enjoyed working closely with the production companies behind these high-profile children’s shows to develop top quality content that complements and enhances young viewers’ experiences with both series.
“We’re now looking forward to the numerous exciting projects we have lined up for 2016, including producing Thud’s first original game.”
