TES Global invests in West Wales-based edtech start-up
by Nicholas Fearn , March 22
Global digital education company TES Global has acquired a stake in EduKey, an educational software provider based in West Wales.
The start-up was founded in 2012 by Duncan Wilson, a former secondary school teacher of 16 years, and Gintas Sasnauskas, an experienced software developer.
It’s developed two leading projects since launching: Class Charts, which is an AI-driven seating plan and behaviour management platform, and Provision Map, a special educational needs tool.
Both products have helped EduKey create and sustain a global user base of more than 350,000 teachers and 4 million students, and the deal aims to build on this success.
Rob Grimshaw, CEO of TES Global, said: “We’re delighted that EduKey will be joining the TES family.
“Teachers love the company’s products, and we’re all excited about the opportunities to make them available to the TES community of 8 million educators.
“Teacherpreneurs like Duncan are hugely passionate about education and know what works in the classroom. And this is demonstrated clearly in the rapid take up of the products all over the world.”
Duncan Wilson, Founder and Director of EduKey, said:”I am thrilled that TES Global have recognised the value and potential of Edukey.
“It has taken a great deal of hard work to get us to where we are now and we are on the cusp of an incredibly exciting new chapter for the company with Class Charts and Provision Map growing rapidly.
“The endorsement and support of TES is hugely significant as we look to support an ever increasing number of global teachers.”
Stephen Crabb, MP for Preseli Pembrokeshire, also commented: “This deal is exciting news for EduKey as a business and exciting news for Pembrokeshire.
“Duncan and his team have done an excellent job in creating an innovative global hi-tech business which has huge potential for growth.
“This deal will open doors to new opportunities and I am thrilled that the business will be looking to create so many hi-tech jobs within its already established local team. I look forward to watching their continued success.”
