Welsh techies launch events listing website

A team of technologists based in Cardiff have launched a new website to promote technology meet-ups and events taking place across South Wales.

Called TechEvents.Wales, the site is the brainchild of IT recruitment agency Computer Recruiter and is aimed at connecting South Wales’s 40,000 strong tech community.

Now available to access, it provides local tech enthusiasts with the latest news and information about relevant events taking place in their area.

The site takes information from Meetup.com, Eventbrite and Facebook. With this data, it lists events with their date, location and a link to the event sign-up page. Visitors can also search for events.

Bernard Morgan, co-founder and general manager of Computer Recruiter, said the website will act as a signpost for anyone wanting to further connect with their digital peers.

“The tech sector in Wales is constantly growing and evolving, and as more businesses push more products and services digitally, this is only going to grow further,” he said.

“The website will also include a regular blog with write-ups and reviews of tech events, interviews with event organisers, guest posts and advice on setting up and running events so that more people can share their passion for tech in Wales.

He explained that there’ll also be an editorial section: “We are also looking for anyone who would like to get involved with the blog aspect of the website to get in touch, we are always looking to showcase advice and opinion from event holders or regular attendees.”

The website creators said that dozens of people have already signed up to access the website and that the themes of events are broad. They tackle areas such as web development, user interface, search engine optimisation, start-ups and cybersecurity.

Steph Locke, who runs the MSFT Stack and Cardiff R meet-ups, said the website will make it easier for her to promote her events. She said:  “I’ve been running meetups for seven years now and each event makes a difference to at least one person who attends.

“Having the events listed in one easy place online will help me reach more people who can get something useful out of my groups. TechEvents.Wales makes it really clear how big our local community is and I expect it will help us make an even bigger difference as a community.“
