by Nicholas Fearn , December 5
Next year, tech experts, entrepreneurs and academics from all across the world will come together in the Welsh capital to explore collaborative opportunities in the technology industry.
CoInnovate 2018 will bring together engineering and technical minds from across academic institutions, corporates and start-ups to explore some of the most exciting tech trends.
The event, which is set to take place at Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House Hotel on January 24th, will present delegates with an opportunity to network and discuss emerging technologies.
Hosted for the third time, the free-to-attend event is aimed at promoting the latest technology topi s and facilitating conversations to share technologies and approaches across industries.
It’ll also see the return of the Collaboration PitShop, where industry professionals will be able to pitch their challenges to technologists and innovators across academia and business.
This year’s event will explore the world’s first cluster on compound semiconductor technologies and applications, which is located in South Wales.
Kellie Beirne, of Monmouthshire County Council, said: “CoInnovate is going to help mobilise a movement so that the triple helix of business, higher education and government clearly understands the problems that technologies could be the best fix for.”
Nick Crew, of Airbus Group Endeavr Wales, said: “CoInnovate is a fantastic opportunity for business, industry, academia and government to get together to address real-world challenges.”
There’ll be a range of exciting topics, including new sensor technologies, machine learning, industry 4.0 automation, additive manufacturing and regional opportunities.
As well as this, businesses will be able to showcase their technologies to multinationals and potential investors. They’ll also benefit from talks from the likes of William Sachiti from the Institute of Robotics professor Izzet Kale from the University of Westminster.
Denise Powell, open innovation manager at IQE, is one of the event’s organisers. She commented: “There is a wealth of dynamic and disruptive individuals and organisations here in the UK.
“but collaboration opportunities are being missed because we simply don’t know the complex challenges being faced by others.
“CoInnovate 2018 plays a pivotal role in getting everyone in one place, talking about the radical ways to innovate for the future.”
